Food is part of a country’s culture. As we grow, the food of our country is part of our everyday life.
Most people associate food with fond memories of their childhood. They will miss the dishes served to the family once they move out of their home as adults.
When they’re tired, frustrated, or stressed, they’ll probably look for that delicious dish that their moms cook. Others prefer to make the food themselves.
If you love to cook and you want to whip up your favorite family dish at home, then getting the secret recipe from your mom or grandma is a must. Now, you may find your country’s food delicious.
But other people might not be comfortable eating certain dishes that aren’t from their country. This was the issue of a Guatemalan Redditor who served a dish called barbacoa during the housewarming party which he held with his wife.
The original poster (OP) was so excited after he found some beef tongue and beef cheeks at the meat shop. These are the perfect ingredients for a dish taught by his grandfather.
He prepared and served the dishes during the party and his guests were impressed. One of them, the girlfriend of his wife’s brother wanted the recipe.
He was reluctant to give the information at first since it was considered a secret family recipe. But his wife insisted that he share the recipe.
So he wrote it down and gave the recipe. After reading the ingredients, the woman was shocked and disgusted the moment she saw certain beef cuts in the recipe.
She accused the OP of serving dog food because she uses those cuts as dog food. After being shamed online, the OP asked the “Am I The A**hole?” (AITA) subreddit if it was wrong to serve those dishes.
The OP felt guilty after someone complained about the dishes he served during his housewarming party.

The OP was so excited about using the smoker his wife gave him.
He saw some beef cuts that are perfect for the dishes from his country, Guatemala.

The guests enjoyed the food. But that was until one of the guests saw what’s in the OP’s recipe.

This particular guest accused the OP of serving disgusting food.

Making a scene at the party wasn’t enough for the woman. She continued to insult the OP on Facebook.

The OP should just ignore this ignorant woman, according to some Redditors.

You can’t really call it peasant food when the ingredients are expensive.

Others smell racism in the situation.

Some Redditors would love to eat the OP’s dishes.

The woman is making herself look ignorant.

Some people didn’t know that those beef cuts were used in some dishes.

If you’re wondering what head cheese is, a Redditor explains it.

Another user further explains head cheese.

Some people would love to try the dishes even if they’re not comfortable about their ingredients.

Some countries have dishes that use all cuts from the animal’s body.

The OP explains the socioeconomic makeup of the family.

It’s clear who the a-hole is.

She’s being racist the moment she said “peasant food.”

The woman is only showing her stupidity by reacting outrageously on Facebook.

Would she still eat sausage if she finds out what its ingredients are?

She enjoyed the food enough to ask for a recipe. She shouldn’t complain.

The OP definitely isn’t in the wrong here. He even gave the guests the favor of letting them taste authentic Latin American food.
The woman needs to stop being racist and start being appreciative. The more she spreads hate on Facebook, the more people will know how ignorant she is
