ALL IN ALL!

The author’s daughter suffers from severe social anxiety, which has prevented her from extracurricular activities and education. She has been in therapy with a therapist for the past year and a half, and the therapist recommended getting a service dog to help her navigate public settings better. However, the author’s daughter left home with her sister-in-law for a few days, and she was asked to take care of her senior dog, an old and small one, after attempting to recreate an online video.

The author confronted her daughter, who admitted to wanting to recreate the video and used a defense that the dog was old. The author told her daughter that she would not get a service dog and that she would have to pay her aunt’s vet bill, which is in the thousands. The daughter got upset and said she was being unfair because she can’t get a job due to her social anxiety, but the author told her she should have thought about that before doing so.

The author’s daughter has since been attempting to find a part-time job that requires minimal face-to-face interaction, but she has only been able to find a waitress job. Her husband suggests restricting her pocket money until the bill is paid off, but the author believes this is not a good enough punishment.

The therapist also points out that forcing her daughter into an unfamiliar job may be too daunting. The author questions whether their husband and daughter’s therapist are right or if they are being too harsh on their daughter.
